Assistant Operations Manager – Madison, WI

General Description: The Assistant Operations Manager will contribute to the overall operational performance of La Crosse Seed.

Job Summary

The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of a wide variety of customer service, logistical, warehousing, and production activities. Performance will be measured on ability to fulfill customer orders, expense management, inventory control, and completeness of data processing. This position has possible advancement opportunities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Division is Exceeding Customer Expectations
    • Applicable activities to manage include:
      • Order fulfillment
      • Timely communication/information requests
      • Walk-in customer service (wholesale & retail-where applicable)
      • Ensure order accuracy and the quality of product shipped
    • Coordinate Divisional Logistical Needs
      • Schedule and ensure customer shipment; managed activities include:
        • Routing permanent/temporary drivers
        • Resource additional drivers and logistical assets as required by seasonal business
        • Utilize Third-Party Logistics Vendors as needed
      • Manage Inventory and Warehouse Activities
        • With assistance from warehouse management, managed activities could include:
          • Set weekly production schedules to meet inventory needs forecast by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems
          • Maintain a rolling 12 month inventory needs forecast
          • Implement, monitor company safety procedures; suggesting improvements
          • Responsible for the timeliness, accuracy, and reporting of all warehouse related activities (warehouse chastity)


  • Overall Divisional Performance
    • Accomplish division results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees
    • Measure and report effectiveness of department activities
    • Continuously improve all aspects of divisional operations to improve quality of service, efficiency of department and work crew and equipment performance
    • Create and revise systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and budgetary and personnel requirements; implementing change
    • Provide safe and clean work environment for employees
    • Create a team-centric work environment by goal setting, frequent communication and feedback using rewards to reinforce positive contributions
    • Monitor and control divisional expenses against budget, explaining variances



  • 1 year of previous supervisory/people management experience
  • Competence with Microsoft Office or similar business software suite
  • Able to lift and or move up to 75 lbs.


  • BS/BA in a relevant field
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP System
  • 3 years of work experience in a seed related industry and/or warehouse experience
